Sky Media exists to help people live well in Singapore, whether you have been here for decades or arrived last month. That is a responsibility we take seriously. This page explains how we research, write, review and update our content, and the principles that guide every guide, explainer and news piece we publish.
What we set out to do
Our aim is simple: content that is accurate, genuinely useful and built to last. We would rather publish one clear, well researched guide than ten thin articles. Before we start a piece, we ask what a reader actually needs to know, in what order, and what would leave them worse off if we got it wrong. We write to answer real questions, not to fill a page.
We favour evergreen content: guides that stay relevant month after month. Where a topic is timely, we say so plainly and give it the care that timeliness demands.
How we research and write
Every guide begins with research. We read widely, cross check claims against more than one reliable source, and prefer primary sources over second hand summaries. When a fact matters, we trace it back to where it came from.
Our writing aims to be clear, warm and practical. We explain terms in plain language, use examples where they help, and structure articles so you can scan for the part you need. We write in British and Singapore spelling, and we keep the tone respectful of a broad audience with very different starting points.
How we handle things that change
Some things in Singapore change often: fees, eligibility rules, application steps, quotas, deadlines and official procedures. We do our best to describe them accurately at the time of writing, but rules are updated by the authorities who set them, and the official position is always the one that counts.
For anything official, we point readers to the relevant government source and encourage you to verify the current details there before you act. Depending on the topic, that may include:
- ICA (Immigration and Checkpoints Authority) for passports, visas, residency and immigration matters
- MOM (Ministry of Manpower) for work passes, employment and workplace matters
- CPF Board for CPF contributions, savings, housing and retirement schemes
- LTA (Land Transport Authority) for driving, vehicles and public transport
- MOE (Ministry of Education) for schools, admissions and education matters
We include these pointers because our guides are here to orient you, not to replace the official word. When in doubt, check the source.
Review and updating
Before a piece goes live, it is reviewed for accuracy, clarity and usefulness. After publishing, we treat content as something we maintain, not something we abandon. We revisit guides periodically, and we prioritise reviews when we know a policy, fee or process has changed. Where a page has been meaningfully updated, we aim to make that visible so you know the information reflects our latest understanding.
Corrections
We get things wrong sometimes, and when we do we want to fix them quickly and openly. If you spot an error, an outdated detail or something that reads unclearly, please tell us at hello@skymedia.com.sg. Let us know the page and, if you can, what the correct information should be. We review every report, correct genuine errors promptly, and where a correction is significant we note that the page has been updated.
Editorial independence
Our editorial judgement is our own. Decisions about what we cover, and what we say about it, are made on the merits for our readers, not in exchange for payment or favour. Commercial relationships never buy a positive review, a softer conclusion or the removal of an inconvenient fact. If we cannot cover something honestly, we would rather not cover it at all.
Sponsored and affiliate content
We do run advertising and partnerships, because they help fund the work. When we do, we are upfront about it.
- Sponsored content is content a partner has paid for. It is clearly labelled as sponsored or paid, so you always know when you are reading it.
- Affiliate links may earn us a small commission if you buy or sign up through them, at no extra cost to you. Where we use them, we disclose it. An affiliate relationship never changes our honest assessment of a product or service.
Labelling is not an afterthought for us. It is part of keeping your trust.
Our bilingual commitment
Singapore is home to people who read in different languages, and Sky Media is built to serve both locals and newcomers, including our growing mainland Chinese audience. Our commitment is to provide content in both English and Chinese, so that useful, trustworthy information reaches more of the people who need it, in the language they are most comfortable with. We are building towards this in stages, and we hold our Chinese language content to the same standards of accuracy and care as our English work.
